Create and find things fast

Several shortcuts save you a trip through the menus for the most frequent actions.

The "Create" button in the header

The orange Create button, to the right of the search bar, is available on every screen. It offers:

EntryWhat happens
Project or ideaThe creation wizard opens, as with + New project. Outside project screens, FoxPlan first shows the planning.
Task in the current projectThe planning of the current project opens and a task is added, ready to be named.
Milestone in the current projectThe same with a milestone.
CardMy cards opens on the card creation dialog.
Log my timeMy timesheet opens in grid mode.
Declare an absenceMy activity opens in calendar mode: click the day concerned.
Start the timerThe header timer starts and opens.

The menu only offers what you are allowed to do: Project or idea only appears with the right to create projects, and an entry disappears if your group's menu access hides the matching screen. No task is added to a read-only project.

Starred and recent projects in the menu

Click the star to the right of the project selector to star the current project. It then appears at the bottom of the left menu, in the Starred section; a second click removes the star.

Portfolios are starred the same way, with the star to the right of their selector, whether project or resource portfolios. In the Starred section, a small icon tells them apart from projects; a click opens the Global planning of a project portfolio, or the Workload of a resource portfolio.

Just below, the Recent section lists the last five projects opened from the selector (a starred project is not repeated there). A click opens the project's planning directly.

  • Both lists follow your account, from one browser or device to another.
  • They only show projects you still have access to.
  • When the menu is collapsed, only icons remain: hover or pin the menu to see the shortcuts.

Keyboard shortcuts

A single letter is enough, as in Gmail or Jira. It does nothing while the cursor is in an input field, a grid, the planning or an open dialog: the letter is then typed normally.

KeyAction
CCreates a new item on the current screen: a card on Cards views, a decision on Decisions, a status report on Status, a committee on Committees… On a screen without an add button, opens the Create menu.
TAdds a task: in the planning or task list on display, otherwise in the current project.
MAdds a milestone the same way. The key is J when the interface is in French.
⌘K / Ctrl+KOpens the command palette (see below).
EscCloses the edit panel open on the right, like its cross, or the open dialog. A drop-down list, a date picker or a cell being edited closes first.

The key is shown on the matching button and in the add menus. ⌘C, ⌘T, ⌘J and ⌘M stay with the browser and the system: copy, new tab, downloads, minimise window. You can change these keys, and give keys to other actions and to screens, in the Keyboard shortcuts tab of your profile.

The ⌘K shortcut

⌘K (Mac) or Ctrl+K (Windows, Linux) puts the cursor in the global search from any screen. It works as a command palette:

  • when empty, it offers the actions of the Create button: create a task, a card or a project, log your time, declare an absence, start the timer;
  • as you type, actions are filtered ("task", "time", "leave"…), above the screens and data found;
  • the arrow keys move through the list and Enter runs the action or opens the highlighted item.

The guided tour

On every screen of the application, a compass button 🧭 appears to the right of the Create button. It starts a short tour of the screen: each important element is highlighted, with a bubble explaining what it is for. The main screens (planning, lists, cards, dashboards, budget, workload, timesheet, committees, strategic management, clients, settings) have their own tour; the others present the shared elements (selector, grid, favorites, export, create and search).

  • Next and Previous, or the keyboard arrows, move through the steps; Skip, Esc or a click outside close the tour.
  • A step whose element is not displayed (rights, disabled feature, narrow window) is skipped.
  • Nothing is saved: you can restart the tour as often as you like.
